UNDERSTANDING VISION & ITS IMPACT IN ASSISTING CLIENTS ACHIEVE THEIR VOCATIONAL POTENTIAL
A Closer Look at Vision Impairments, the Process of Vision Rehabilitation and a Demonstration of Adaptive Technology Vision Aids

SPEAKERS:
• Dr. Kashif Zoberi, B.Sc., O.D. – Doctor of Optometry, currently practicing at Mississauga Vision Centre. Dr. Zoberi has developed a low vision clinic at this location and has been providing sight enhancement services for the last 10 years. He is a registered authorizer and vendor of low vision aids through the Assistive Devices Program of Ontario. He also provides functional visual assessments that determine the visual capacity and barriers to vocational performance for visually impaired patients trying to reintegrate into the workforce.
• Samera Q. Zoberi, B.Sc., R.R.P. – Vision Rehabilitation Consultant, currently working at Mississauga Vision Centre. She is a graduate of the York – Seneca Rehabilitation Services Program and has received a Certificate in Adaptive Technology Aids from Mohawk College. She is a Registered Rehabilitation Professional and a professional member of the Vocational Rehabilitation Association of Canada. She provides vocational counselling, adaptive technology assessments and training, employment accommodation services specific to visually impaired clients trying to reintegrate into the workforce.
• Ryan Heeney is the Territory Manager, Central Canada for Eschenbach Optik of America. Eschenbach is a manufacturer of premium magnification devices for the visually impaired and provides a turnkey program including training and support for aspiring low vision practitioners. Ryan has assisted in establishing over 20 low vision clinics in Central Canada and manages approximately 350 customers in the region. He has provided over 600 hours of in-office and seminar training. Ryan has a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario and a Business Certificate in Marketing from Humber College.

• Understanding Visual Impairments Secondary to Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVA) and Acquired Brain Injuries (ABI)
• Optical Aids & Their Role in Enhancing Visual Function and Assisting in Employability
• Adaptive Technology and Other Accommodations for Achieving Success with Visually Impaired Clients
• Discussion about Functional Visual Assessments, Employment Accommodations, etc.
• Case Study Presentation – MVA/ ABI Client with visual impairment: A Journey to Returning Back to Work
• Live Demonstration of Low- Tech and High-Tech Vision Adaptive Aids to Achieve Vocational Potential
• Question and Answer Session - An opportunity to ask the panel questions with regards to any aspects of visual disability and vocational reintegration

RISK MANAGEMENT - THE 4 T’S?

SPEAKER:
• Allan Freedman L.L.B., Barrister & Solicitor
Allan Freedman is a practicing lawyer who also teaches and lectures in the areas of risk management and practice management. He has lectured to rehabilitation counsellors, medical doctors, chiropractors, naturopaths, homeopaths, and other health care practitioners. Mr. Freedman has an extensive background in matters involving health care issues including the representation of health care professionals before licensing boards and audit committees. He is a member of a number of organizations, including the Toronto Medical-Legal Society, an Honorary member of the Canadian Society of Medical Evaluators, the Governors Club of CMCC, and the Ontario and Canadian Bar Association.  


Key Topics To Be Covered In This Session Will Include:
This presentation may be applied for Ethic CEU's. It will centre on issues that may have to be considered applying:
• legislation and standards; ethical considerations; and practical conclusions
• confidentiality
• privacy – two different issues
• human resource problems
• breach of standards
• inappropriate behaviour – sexual abuse, verbal abuse, physical abuse
• improper record keeping
• conflicts of interest
